Hi All, This is Braiden-Lee Prescott he was and still is a normal happy and cheeky 2 and a half year old boy untill one day in the middle of february 2012 Braiden developed a limp, we kept our eye on Braiden and over the next 3 days he was stiill limping, he also developed a temperature too, so we took him to the doctors to get this "mysterious" limp checked out. The doctor said to us that he couldnt actually see braiden limping but checked his leg anyway and said all was fine and perscribed him some paracetamol for his temp. The next day came and he wasnt any better infact he was getting worse so we decided to take him to Leigh walk-in centre, went into the triage and then got rushed into a side room, got told to strip him to just his nappy and have a fan on him for half an hour, we did this then they told us we was getting transferred to wigan, got to wigan about 6.00pm after being in walk-in centre for about 2 hours they ran a few tests on him the told us they thought he had "septic arthritis" and was transfering us over to Manchester Childrens Hospital. eventually got there and they wanted to do x-rays and ultrasounds on his hips, so they did and found some "thickening" witch they thought to be "septic arthritis" so booked him into theartre for an operation, he had his operation which was an hour and half, they cut him open where his hip is and washed his hip joint out to get rid of the "septic" infection, the surgeon came to see us and told us he didnt find any infection and was running tests. few weeks later after antibiotics via IV in hosp he wasnt getting any better so they decided they wanted some scans first he has a CT scan of his abdomen and legs, they had found something, then they wanted a MRI scan. He had the MRI scan and they found "something" in his legs, hips, pelvis, a few vertibrae's in his spine, and a mass in his abdomen behind his tummy, so we got reffered to the Heamotology, and oncology specialists and she came to see us she said to us " we know he has not got septic arthritus, he has either got leukemia or a very rare disease" we was in bits after thinking he had septic arthritus to having cancer. but we didnt know for sure what he had untill they ran some more tests. they wanted, a bone marrow biopsy, a biopsy of the tumour in his abdomen and they wanted to place something called a "Hickman Line" into his chest. he was down in theartre for 3 hours. The results of the bone marrow biopsy or aspirate came back the next day and his consultant told us that they had found cancer cells in there, this devastated us, our 2 year old happy little boy with cancer =[. After a few days the tumour biopsy results came back and thats when his consultant had a chat with us to tell us it had been confirmed that braiden, our 2 year old little man has got NEUROBLASTOMA, the rare childhood cancer and that he was already stage 4 advanced. this was shocking, but we needed to get our head round it to be strong for our little man. we found out a few weeks ago and he is now currently undergoing his chemotherapy treatment, and it soo smiley to say the least! hes our inspiration, a very special little boy and a true fighter we love you braiden. xx
